ResearchResearch in the Gilbertson Group aims to inform sustainable design of existing and novel materials that 1) precludes potential unintended environmental and human health consequences, and 2) maintains or exceeds functional performance goals. Gilbertson's research includes both experimental and life cycle modeling thrusts.

The GroupMeet our group members by visiting our People page.
Dr. Gilbertson is excited to grow her research group at the University of Pittsburgh. Please contact me if you are interested in becoming a member of the group as a post doc, visiting researcher, graduate student, or undergraduate. Check out these undergraduate research opportunities! Latest News and AnnouncementsWe are hiring!Dr. Gilbertson is looking for students at all levels of education to join the team. Students should be excited to learn and conduct laboratory research in an interdisciplinary, team environment.
The following project has openings for a graduate student: Looking for the silver lining: Assessing the impact of silver on shower heads on opportunistic pathogen abundance and resistance This is an interdisciplinary project bringing together the disciplines of environmental engineering, microbiology, and chemistry. We are seeking an enthusiastic student to join our team and work on evaluating mechanisms of novel drinking water treatment fixtures on our observations of microbial dynamics in water exiting the fixture. To find out more about this project, please email me: LMG110@pitt.edu More great publications from the Gilbertson Group! Our collaboration with John Keith and Howard Fairbrother is published in ACS Applied Materials and Interfaces
This is also Yan's last publication from her dissertation research, congrats Yan! Nathalia's first paper in the Gilbertson Group was published in ES&T Water (featured on the cover) informing the rational design of graphitic carbon nitride. Congrats Nathalia! Our work is featured on the September issue cover of Nature Nanotechnology!
Dr Gilbertson publishes in Nature!
Very excited to work with an amazing author team led by Thilo Hofmann on this Nature Food review: "Technology readiness and overcoming barriers to sustainably implement nanotechnology-enabled plant agriculture" And to lead another great team of researchers in the following project: "Guiding the Design Space: Advancing Sustainable Crop Production Using Nanotechnology" also featured on Springer Nature Sustainability Community link Our paper, led by PhD student Yan Wang and co-authored by Nathalia Aquino de Carvalho is featured on the cover of the ES: Nano December issue, check it out!
